OK, notes... where to begin??? This song is really not very
difficult to play at all, it's just a matter of getting the main
progressions down. Two things: you should be at least somewhat
familiar with alternate open tunings, and you should have a good
feel for improvisation within a framework. That said, here are some
more specific notes regarding how I've decided to tab this tune...
I decided to forego listing chord names above all the lyrics.
The problem is that this song is based on a couple of standard
riffs, which are more or less improvisational. So if you can get
the basic chord progression down, then my best suggestion is to
just go with that and improv a little bit on the subsequent verses
and choruses. What I've done is "fake"-tab the intro, first and
second verses, first and second choruses, and the bridge/solo
section. These tab progressions are found at the end of this file
in the reference section. By "fake" tab, I mean that I haven't
notated every single little note that Mike plays on the recording
(just the basic progression showing the major chord forms and
notable fills). It would just be way too much work to tab it all
out perfectly, especially because he plays something slightly
different in every verse/chorus (but still within the same
framework, which is my whole point. Improvise your own "Moon"
riffs based on what I've provided).
One final note: there is extensive use of harmonics in this song
(pluck the string at the indicated frets without pressing down
your finger to the fretboard). Good luck and let me know if you
