The five songs contained on this boot were the encore. There is another (lesser quality) boot of this show,
which contains the entire set.
Here's an anecdote about this boot for y'all. I was at this show with my friend John. Just before leaving
my place to go to the Met Cafe, we were listening to some dada. His favorite song was "Who You
Are" because it's awesome, but mostly because of the kick-ass guitar solo. Anyways, we decided that we'd
try to request it if possible (yes, it was a long shot). On this bootleg, you can clearly (more like loud and annoyingly)
hear us chanting "WHO! YOU! ARE!" over and over again. We only did it a couple of times at first, but then it's like it
took on a life of its own. Pretty soon there were people all around us chanting it (and even louder than we were).
Between every song on the encore you can hear us chanting for this song. They even asked for requests at
one point, because Phil had a problem with one of his drums (I forget what exactly). But it was still no go.
Now, why I just admitted to being the culprit in this annoying display of fanatical dada cheering, I don't know.
I guess just because it cracks me up that there was a recording out there of my friend and I making asses out
of ourselves. It is a small consolation that we weren't the only ones doing it.
Here is yet another anecdote about this show. Aside from the chanting of "who you are!", there is another
distinct voice that can be heard on this boot. There was a girl yelling out "Mary Sunshine Rain" at the same time
that almost everybody else was chanting with me for "Who You Are". Fast forward almost five years later to the
Harper's Ferry show in Boston. I'm standing there watching the show and they ask for requests. I blurt out
"Who You Are" before anybody else can get a word in and they play it! Sweet justice. Then a few songs
later, I hear a familiar solitary voice... "Mary Sunshine Rain!" it calls out. The exact same voice as from this
Met Cafe show. I started cracking up, then turned around and there was this girl. So I turned and said "Hey,
were you at the Met Cafe show in '98?" Naturally, she said yes. I explained about the recording and we both had
a good laugh. "Mary", if you're out there reading this, I wish you luck in eventually hearing your song. I got
mine, and I'm happy :)
