THE BALLAD OF EARL GREY AND CHAMOMILE

SONG LYRICS

Go put on your birthday suit
And I'll take off my uniform
She threw me down and kissed me harder
She made me glad that I was born

Now I was young and she was younger
But she was way beyond my years
She taught me how to let it go
And showed me how to disappear

We drank earl grey and chamomile
When I was king and she was so real
Long days like turning wheels
You know they bring me back
The way that I used to feel
We were Earl Grey and Chamomile

It's funny how you never think
While eating grapes up on the throne
That one day in a downtown crowd
You find yourself so all alone

Now I see her face in everyone
Her Devil's smile I can't shake
What happens to forgotten love
That never had a chance to make?

We drank earl grey and chamomile
When I was king and she was so real
Long days like turning wheels
You know they bring me back
The way that I used to feel
We were Earl Grey and Chamomile

Her song is in my head
Is in my heart
Is in my soul salvation
Don't want to lose
To forget
It's my inspiration

(solo)

'N' go put on your birthday suit
And I'll take off my uniform
She threw me down and kissed me harder
Made me glad that I was born

We drank earl grey and chamomile
When I was king and she was so real
Long days like turning wheels
You know they bring me back
The way that I used to feel
We drank earl grey and chamomile
When I was king and she was so real
Earl Grey and Chamomile

Oh huh, oh huh

SONG NOTES

At the 2003 Hartford show, Mike said that he used to drink earl grey and his girlfriend drank chamomile before they'd go to bed and get shagadelic (my words) and that all it's really about. It's just about love, baby.

In a 1999 online chat, Michael Gurley said this about recording the song: "Secret technique on Earl Grey... it was done with a 1962 Gibson 125. I use the above the nut and below the bridge area technique. Have fun trying to figure it out! Use your right index finger for vibrato".
